And then the heart of the question is does a creature that instigates the fight ability have damage if he has protection (weather from a colour or creatures).
A good example would exist Nightfall Predators ability. Lets say y'all slap a spirit mantle on this iv/4. And then your opponent comes at y'all with something like a v/5 Stalking Vampire. Yous decide to block knowing that your creature is safe. But you determine you lot want to be a little artistic and try to kill his vampire. So you activate the fight ability. Lets say for the sake of arguing it is after combat harm would be dealt. So with the vampire a five/1 and your Werewolf a iv/4 however they dish out "Fight harm".
Since your creature is the source of the power where is the impairment coming from, and is the werewolf protected from it? at no signal is he targeting himself, just is the damage coming from a animal?
And lets say he didn't have Spirit Mantle, but instead you lot used a Stave Off and chose Blackness... is he condom? or is the damage greenish the werewolf activated the ablity, or is it ruby because of the mana used to produce the cost, or is it colorless from a creature, or is it black considering it states "each deals damage to the other"
Merely a little confused plainly.

If a 'fighting' creature with protection from creatures would be taking damage from a creature, that damage is prevented. Also, the Vampire is never a five/1, it'due south a 5/5 with 4 damage marked on it. This works though. After gainsay damage is dealt (iv to the Vampire and 0 to the Predator), you can fight the Vampire and deal an additional four damage while the damage from the Vampire is prevented again. The source of the damage is the animal you targeted, not your own beast. The Fight power doesn't actually deal any damage; it makes each creature deals damage equal to its ability to the other.

Well y'all knew what i meant by the 5/1, but cheers for making more eloquent.
Then in that instance even a Pro-Black Nightfall Predator would be able to pull this off.

Correct. Protection from any of the targeted brute's qualities will result in the Predator taking no damage.
I felt it was important to mention the distinction of v/1 vs 5/5 with 4 damage marked considering many players have a misunderstanding due to learning improperly and/or because of Duels of the Planeswalkers. Information technology can affair when something cares about a animate being'due south toughness (e.thou., Momentous Autumn, Condemn), where you'd get a different result from marked damage vs. reduced toughness.
